Preservation of the White Swiss Shepherd

ABOUT ME AND THE NEVERENDINGDOG PROJECT (NED)

My name is Eveline Broeders-Wilke. In 2018, while still residing in The Netherlands, we purchased our first White Swiss Shepherd, Sir Morgan Jonah’s White Joy (Mojo). From that moment on, we were instantly smitten with this beautiful breed. In 2019, we welcomed our second male White Swiss Shepherd, Soul Saver For the Joy of Life (Mijne). In 2020, we embarked on a new chapter in our lives by relocating to the United States. We now live in Clarksville, Virginia, where we proudly run The Sunnyside Sisters Bed and Breakfast.

In 2021, we expanded our furry family once again with our first female White Swiss Shepherd, Joyfull Jessie Vom House Savacium (Jessie), our beloved ‘princess’. That same year, Mojo became a father for the first time, and we kept his daughter Of Sunnyside Wynter Spirit Kennels Indigo, Jane. Jane is as sweet and independent as a butterfly. Our most recent addition to the family is our spirited Evie, Jolie Evie vd Witte Klaver, who joined us in 2024. More information about the dogs you can find on my breeders website.

All five of our dogs come from different breeders, each with their own unique bloodlines. However, they are also related through common ancestors, which isn’t surprising given that the breed has a closed studbook. When I first started breeding, I had a hard time finding (short-coated) White Swiss Shepherds that weren’t related to my dog in five generations or more. Just like in humans, it’s not a good idea to breed dogs that are so closely related. The chance of uncommon diseases popping up increases as more is bred with closely related species.

This concern motivated me to research ways to stop this unwanted trend. This led me to embark on a journey that eventually culminated in the creation of The NeverendingDog Project (NED) in 2025.

"Be the change you wish to see in the world"

I don’t want to come across as pretentious, claiming to know everything. The truth is, I don’t. However, I firmly believe that something must be done. Inaction is not an option. This realization fuels my motivation to take action. Unfortunately, I’m not getting any younger, and if I want to improve the health of the White Swiss Shepherd breed, it will take between 10 to 15 years before we see any significant results. Despite the challenges, I’m moving forward with this plan BUT welcome anyone who shares my vision to contact me. Thank you!
